The Protector was originally created in the 1960s by West Plains artist Charles Kimberlin II (1916-2001). This portrait hung in the Garnett Library on the campus of Missouri State University-West Plains for over 30 years and is now owned by art collector and West Plains native, Crockett Oaks III.
The Protector is interpreted as a mother standing in complete solidarity in the protection of her children. The strength depicted by this powerful image invokes pride, passion and most importantly, promise.
International artist Bolaji Ogunwo will paint a 30 ft. x 60 ft. like image of this work of art on the north exterior wall of the building located at 14 Court Square, with a dedication ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, October 4.
