The Conversation Starters Art and Sensory Experience is part of a collaborative program that merges art with group therapy. Heart of the Ozarks United Way created this program with the Ozark Artery, The Yellow House, and local therapists to provide free art-and-group therapy workshops that promote social connection in a gallery filled with art specifically designed to start conversations.

Therapy participants will use the artworks you create to induce socializing. 2D and 3D works will be considered. Interactive, sensory, and 3D art is preferred. The show’s goal is to provide an interactive art experience that gets people to talk to each other.

Artists and makers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to submit their work between June 24-28. Children ages eight and up will be viewing and interacting with artworks, so content must be appropriate for all ages. Work must be original, no kits and no copies.

There is no cost for entry.

Cash prizes will be awarded, including a $300 first-place prize, $200 second-place prize, and $100 third-place prize provided by a grant from the Coover Foundation and Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
The show will be open for viewing during Yellow House events and open hours, Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A reception will be held Saturday, July 13, 4-6 p.m. Winners will be announced at the reception, which will be free and open to the public.

Artists are encouraged to offer their work for sale, but it is not a requirement. For those who do price their pieces, images of the work along with the asking price will be posted on the Ozark Artery Facebook page with the artist’s permission. A 20 percent commission will be collected from sales, with 10 percent going to the Ozark Artery and 10 percent going to The Yellow House to help cover expenses for the show and use of the facility.

Guidelines:
– Email photos of up to three (3) proposed artworks to ozarkarteryinfo@gmail.com between June 24 and June 28 to be considered.
– 2D and 3D pieces accepted. If interactive artworks require an explanation, please include the explanation in your email.
– 2D Pieces must be framed and/or ready to hang. No saw-tooth hangers. All pieces must be wired securely and fully prepared for display.
– Artists must provide display equipment for 3D works.

This is a juried show. Artwork will be selected for entry based on creativity, potential for interaction and conversation, and artistic skill/effort. Organizers reserve the right to reject any work for any reason.
This art show is made possible by Heart of the Ozarks United Way, the Yellow House, the Ozark Artery, and a grant from the Louis L. & Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation and Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
