Exhibit hours are:

Local artist Marc Brannan’s works will be featured inside OzSBI’s first floor October 3 through the end of December 2022. Visitors may view the display at the incubator during OzSBI’s business hours, anytime between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Marc Brannan grew up on the family farm near Willow Springs, Missouri, and currently lives and works in West Plains. He started playing with cameras and taking pictures at a very young age. He loved playing in the old barn and enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible surrounded by nature. His parents nurtured his desire to travel and see new places. His dad encouraged him to learn and enjoy history, especially the history of his family and where they came from.
Artist Statement:
“I have always enjoyed the stories of my mom attending one-room schools when she was a kid, and I think that is a big reason I seek them out to photograph today. There are less of them around every year, as a lot of them slowly fall into disrepair and collapse unless they have been cared for or restored over the years. I love incorporating them into my landscape photography as much as I can, especially as a way of preserving their history. I also enjoy nature photography and have started trying to capture more shots of wildlife, both in and out of our area. I would go for a drive out in the country and notice the old townships along the way that are slowly disappearing. I would try to find an old store, or church, and if I was lucky, the old schoolhouse. Something historical that could share a little bit of that town’s history. I also strive to meet with the owners of those buildings or residents, to help provide personal accounts of their history. A lot of the time, they are stories that won’t be documented in any history books. At some point, I would like to put together a book of photos, possibly a history of schoolhouses and townships that I have searched out in my efforts.
The pictures that I have selected for this exhibition show a range of my photos that depict the history and outdoor settings that our area, as well as others, are known for—whether historic or in the natural beauty and wildlife that we see in the Ozarks .”

Create a sunflower harvest floral display at this workshop in October. West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) will host the workshop, conducted by local artist Tara Shahan, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Trillium Trust offices, 1376 Bill Virdon Blvd. in West Plains. Cost for the workshop is $40, all supplies included.
In this workshop you will create this beautiful, personalized Sunflower Harvest floral arrangement. The paint stick crate is painted white with black lettering. The floral arrangement includes sunflowers, cat tails, cotton picks, berry spray, greenery, and your choice of white or orange pumpkin. You will also learn how to make the sweet buffalo plaid bow as well. The crate is 14” wide, 6” tall and 4 ½ “deep.
About the instructor: Tara Shahan was raised in a small town in the Appalachian foothills of southern Ohio until about the age of 12. Her upbringing included being a member in the Patchworkers 4-H club, where most of her projects consisted of food, sewing and crafts taught by her mother, a 4-H leader. Shahan won ribbons for her work at local and state fairs, including an award for Outstanding of the Day at the Ohio State Fair. Shahan now lives in West Plains.
“For the most part I have created things for my own home but now have decided to share those things that I create and cherish so much,” says Shahan. “My passion is for what they are calling these days – rustic, primitive and farmhouse. Most of my items have been upcycled from a vintage piece or made from a common household item. This is what inspires me. Of course, I love frequenting vintage re-sale shops and antique stores for my inspirations, so most items that I make are pre-loved and show wear. DIY is a way of life in the Midwest. Thou art blessed who ‘rescues’ unwanted items!”

Fall Show features Antique, Classic, Open and New Generation pulling tractors, steam engines, plowing, threshing, rock crushing, blacksmith shop, sorghum making, sawmill, cotton gin, stave saw, shingle saw, kids play area and peddle tractor pull, weavers, spinners and indoor museum, small and large gas engines, walk behind tractors, and Cook Shack with homemade pies, cookies and homemade ice cream.
Admission is free as well as free parking. Bring the whole family out for a chance to see history in action.
Organizers add: “If you have an old tractor bring it along and join in the fun. We are always looking for new antique demonstrations, so if you have one bring it on down. Also we have a flea market area, and vendors are always welcome. No food vending trucks please.”

Always a Future for Kids (AFK) is partnering with the West Plains Parks and Recreation Department to present its 1st annual Disc Golf Tournament fundraiser.
This is a non-sanctioned tournament. The cost is $20 per person, with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with multiple flights if there is enough interest. There will be 18 holes in the tournament and also side games going on, with prizes for the winners.
There will be hotdogs and burgers for sale at the event, along with other concessions.

The Fish Fry to support the Historic Summersville Mill is back. Serving begins at 4:00 p.m. and lasts until the catfish is gone. Available is catfish, fries, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert. The cost will be by donation to help pay for yearly expenses to upkeep the Mill.
