OzCon Gaming Convention @ West Plains Civic Center

Oz-Con is a gaming, cosplay and anime convention nestled in the Ozarks. The convention is hosted by Always a Future for Kids and students from The Game Changers student organization at Missouri State University-West Plains; all proceeds go to support Always a Future for Kids. The three-day event will have a little bit for everyone including Cosplay Events, Collector Card Games, such as Magic, Warhammer 40k, Role Playing Games, and much more. Come help support a good cause, browse the various vendors, join a workshop, and meet celebrities on April 24 – April 26, 2026.

WPCA will host the exhibition of works in the Gallery at the Center from May 4, 2025 – May 15, 2025. The Gallery, on the mezzanine, is open to the public during regular Civic Center hours.

Coordinator Kathleen Morrissey says, “WPCA is honored to facilitate this art show during Mental Health Month. Art has long been considered an excellent outlet for one to express themselves.

The 2026 Mental Health month’s art show theme is “A Beautiful Mess”. This competition invites area adults (18+ years of age), High School students (9-12th grade), Middle School Students (5th – 8th grade), 2nd grade – 4th grade, and 1st grade and below to provide their artistic interpretation of what that means. All media types are accepted.

Submissions from Caulfield, Licking, Houston, Mountain Grove, Mountain View, Birch Tree, Winona and West Plains will be participating in this exhibit.

“Art can provide a creative outlet for expressing and processing emotions, particularly those that are difficult to put into words. This can help individuals to release feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression, and promote a sense of emotional release and catharsis.” says Bob Holmes, Art Show Coordinator from Ozarks Healthcare Behavioral Health Center.

This competition invites area adults (18+ years of age), High School students (9-12th grade), Middle School Students (5th – 8th grade), 2nd grade – 4th grade, and 1st grade and below to provide their artistic interpretation of what that means. All media types are accepted.

Submissions from Caulfield, Licking, Houston, Mountain Grove, Mountain View, Birch Tree, Winona and West Plains will be participating in this exhibit.

“Art can provide a creative outlet for expressing and processing emotions, particularly those that are difficult to put into words. This can help individuals to release feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression, and promote a sense of emotional release and catharsis.” says Bob Holmes, Art Show Coordinator from Ozarks Healthcare Behavioral Health Center.

A Meet-the-Artists event will be held on Friday, May 15th from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the Gallery at the Center. The public is invited to attend, meet the artists, view and discuss the pieces on display.

Mother’s Day Community Ride & Art Installation Hangout @ West Plains Bike Shop

About this ride:

A casual, community-paced ride around the Town Loop that happens to be on Mother’s Day. All riders are welcome to join—this is a relaxed, no-pressure group ride.

What to expect:

• Town Loop ride – A group-paced ride following the loop. This is a no-drop style ride, with the group naturally staying together.
• Post-ride hangout – After the ride, many riders plan to gather nearby and spend time watching local artists during the street art installation.
• Flexible participation – Feel free to join for the ride, the hangout, or both.

Notes:

• Washington Ave will be closed due to a street art installation.
• This is an informal, community meetup—no set schedule beyond the start time.

What to bring:

Bike • Helmet • Hydration

Optional: lawn chair, snacks, drinks, cooler for hanging out after the ride. This is a drop-in style gathering—come and go as you’d like, and ride at your own comfort level.
