The West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) and Ozarks Healthcare (OHC) through the Behavioral Healthcare Center have partnered to host a selection of high school students’ artwork on the theme of “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.” The exhibit will be displayed in the Gallery at the Center in the West Plains Civic Center April 30 through May 6. The Gallery, on the mezzanine, is open to the public during regular Civic Center hours.
Children’s mental health week is the first week of May, and this exhibit of 9-12 grade works will help celebrate and build awareness for children’s mental health. A digital art gallery will follow.
WPCA will host a Meet-the-Artists event at the close of the exhibit on Friday, May 6, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend, meet the artists, and discuss the pieces on display.

West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) will host their quarterly “Lunch with Art” event for current and prospective members on Monday, May 2, 2022, from noon till 1 p.m. in the Community Room at the West Plains Public Library. Ellen Hones Martin will be the featured presenter, demonstrating some of her pottery process.
In addition to the program, WPCA board members will open discussion on current plans, programs available through Arts Alliance partners, and invite discussion regarding future arts endeavors for the area. Here’s an opportunity to open conversations with current board members and contribute to the future of arts in West Plains.
Lunch will be catered by Dawn Dionne. Cost of the luncheon is $10 for WPCA members, $15 for non-members. Live Music ~ Harms Crossing & Girls Basketball State Championship Celebration @ Avenue Theatre

A community celebration for the Class 5 State Champion West Plains High School Lady Zizzers basketball team. Sponsor Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply and Bootleggers BBQ will provide a free BBQ dinner. Harms Crossing will kick off the event at 6:30 pm. Special presentations to the team by Missouri Representative David Evans and West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff will also take place. This free event promises to be a fun way to celebrate this very special basketball team.

The run will start at Wages Brewing Company, East Towne Village, 1382 Bill Virdon Blvd. Register between 8-9:30 a.m. at East Towne Village or pre-register by April 29 at the CASA office, 101 Washington Ave., West Plains. Entry fees vary according to age, individual or group, and which event you’re participating in with all proceeds going to 37th Judicial District CASA.
